The Flo Manifesto
I'm a singer and songwriter from Melbourne, Australia. I LOVE Music!!! I perform with my soul/funk concoction and we call ourselves "Florelie & the Backlash Brew". We are crazy about Soul, Funk music by the legends Nina Simone, James Brown, Aretha, Stevie just to name a few.
I was born in Manila's worst area, Tondo, and I believe that this is why I can be pretty fierce when put in a situation. We moved to Melbourne in 88 which has actually toned me down a bit. This city is practically heaven compared to Tondo. The day we arrived, I instantly felt at home.

OMG! We’re on the homepage of Triple J site!
I did backing vocals for ole LOTEK. This, to me, is a big deal because there are soo many talented musicians in Melbourne alone, not to mention the whole of AU, so the competition is fierce to be on AU’s coolest national radio show.. to add to that, we’re pretty much doing this music biz all by ourselves. I quit my full-time job when everyone told me: “don’t give up your day job”.. then LOTEK and I set-up our dedicated studio and record label “Counter Clockwise Records” with cash I mostly hustled from all over the joint. We’re still a long way away from breaking even but this is what I had visualised from the day I quit my full time job @SEEK.com exactly 2 years ago now.
It’s a LOT of work… gigging, recording, writing, finding gigs etc etc… all on our own (not been able to get funding yet)… I’d rather this much work than working on something unrelated to music.
